A sex therapist is a licensed psychotherapist who has particular training, expertise and experience helping people with a variety of issues related to sexuality.
Different therapists work in different ways. Some are more focused on behavior, others on the way people think about sex and its meaning for them. Jill is in the latter group. She often says, “It’s not what’s between your legs that’s important, but what’s between your ears!” She does however provide her clients with education and suggestions for ways they can have a more satisfying physical relationship.
Sex therapists do not demonstrate sexual techniques, nor do they have any sexual contact with their clients. To do so would not only be unhelpful, it would be unethical and illegal.
