Many people who have been the victims of sexual abuse find it difficult to develop mature, loving, sexually active relationships. The experience of being abused and having one’s boundaries violated makes it difficult to have the level of trust and vulnerability that a mature relationship demands. For many people, unhealed sexual trauma leads to long-term sexual issues. Long forgotten incidents of childhood abuse may surface when an adult relationship challenges them to experience new levels of intimacy. In addition to causing difficulties in relationship, childhood abuse can also lead to compulsive sexual behaviors.
